Pro Race Designs KTM RFS Drain Plugs: Pro Race Designs is excited to offer the most innovative solution to the common and costly KTM RFS drain plug seizure.


The Pro Race Designs KTM RFS drain plug kit includes both the lower and the left drain plugs that are cross drilled to allow you to safety wire them together for added security. The lower drain plug is also available separately.


Both of the drain plugs included in this kit are made in California on state of the art multi axis CNC equipment to Aerospace specifications with American made Mil-Spec materials. The lower drain plug is constructed of 303 Stainless Steel and features a 13mm (KTM size) external hex to eliminate the poor design of the stock mud trapping easily breakable drain plug. The left drain plug is constructed of 7075-T6 aluminum and features a 17mm external hex (stock is 13mm) to allow the use of a larger socket reducing the chance of rounding the head.

From countless hours of research we have found numerous reasons for the lower drain plugs to seize into the engine case of the KTM RFS engines. Over torqued Drain plugs is the most common reason for drain plug seizure. Many people do not feel like the factory torque spec is secure enough. Other people just don’t take the time to properly torque the bolt. When the engine heats up then cools down with a drain plug that has been over torqued it almost welds itself into the cases.


O-Ring style drain plugs have a tendency to essentially glue the O-Ring to the engine cases and the drain plug when used with the factories low temp Buna O-Rings. The low profile, small diameter Allen head factory drain bolt is a very poor design that often breaks with very little torque pressure. The threads on the Factory drain bolts are often of poor quality which generates higher friction between the drain plug and the engine case.

Here are a few of the ways we eliminated the KTM RFS drain plug seizure problem:

The Pro Race Designs RFS drain plug kit comes with both the lower drain plug and the left drain plug (closest to shifter). Both Drain plugs are cross for safety wire.
We recommend applying anti-seize compound to the threads of both drain plugs and then torque them to factory specifications. The drain plug kit was designed to safety wire the drain plugs together. The use of safety wire will give you the added security without over torqueing the drain plugs.
The Pro Race Designs RFS drain plug kit also includes specially formulated High Temp O-Rings that are specifically engineered to withstand the high temperatures and hot oils they come in contact with.
